Short Story
Marlin Barton is from the Black Belt region of Alabama. His short stories have appeared in two anthologies and a variety of journals, including The Sewanee Review, which awarded him the Andrew Lytle Prize. His book-length works include a novel, A Broken Thing, published in 2003, and two collections of stories, The Dry Well, published in 2001, and Dancing by the River, published in 2005. He teaches in, and helps direct, the "Writing Our Stories" project, a program for juvenile offenders in Alabama.

First Chapter of a Novel
Lynn Pruett earned her MFA at the University of Alabama. Her novel, RUBY RIVER, was published in 2002 by Atlantic Monthly Press. She has also published short stories, essays, and poems. She teaches in the low-residency MFA program at Murray State in Kentucky.

Poetry
Sue Walker, Poet Laureate of Alabama for 2003-2007, also serves as the English Department Chair at the University of South Alabama. She has published six volumes of poetry, including Blood Will Bear Your Name, which won the Book of the Year Award in 2002 from the Alabama State Poetry Society. Her latest collection is It's Good Weather for Fudge, Conversing with Carson McCullers.

Brooks Clark was a writer-reporter at Sports Illustrated in New York City for 10 years, an editor at Whittle Communications in Knoxville for five years, and for more than a decade has been a speech writer at the Tennessee Valley Authority and a freelance magazine writer. His work has appeared in various magazines, and he writes regularly
for two Knoxville periodicals -- Metro Pulse, a weekly, and CityView, a monthly.
